Todd’s Video Walk-Through Of The New FBI/Kentucky State Police Background Check Process
The Kentucky Real Estate Commission (KREC) has just approved a new background check process utilizing the Kentucky State Police. (KSP) We have detailed information inside our courses, but the following information is a summary of the new rules.
At its latest meeting, the Commission approved and finalized a new process for applicants to obtain the FBI criminal background report. The Commission has entered into a User Agreement with the Kentucky State Police who will now provide an expedited process for obtaining the FBI background report. The Commission will now be able to receive applicant FBI reports within 7 to 10 days of the report being requested. As you are aware, it can currently take up to 16 weeks for FBI background reports to be returned to applicants.
Effective November 23, 2015
Applicants can use the Kentucky State Police process to request their FBI report. Applicants must follow the directions outlined on the Commission website to request the report. If items are missing or incomplete the request will be returned to the applicant for correction. These reports will be sent directly to the Commission within 7 to 10 days. Applicants will pay $34.75 for the background report. This Kentucky State Police process essentially takes the place of the direct to FBI method. You only need the Kentucky State Police report to become licensed.
Effective December 15, 2015 (AOC is now discontinued)
The previously used Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) has been discontinued. All applicants for a license must have their FBI report on file with the Commission prior to submitting their application. As per KRS 324.045(5)(c) There will be no exceptions.
