If you plan on using a debit card for course payment (or a card where you load money) we suggest you contact your bank before trying to process a payment.
Unknown to most of their customers, most banks have a default limit of $500 per day for some online transactions. You can have this limit raised by contacting them, but if you try to process an online transaction above your limit, 2 things will happen.
- Your bank will place a hold on the money typically for 24-48 hours depending on their own internal policy
- The funds will not be sent to us and the overall transaction will be declined/never go through
In other words, the bank reduces your balance for a period of time, but the money never becomes available to us. After 2-3 days the bank reverses the hold and you’ll see the appropriate balance in your account at which point you can process the payment again, but it’s best to avoid all of these hassles by checking with them before you attempt the very first payment.
If you have any questions for us, please reach out through support on our home page. Realize we don’t determine the policy banks use, but we’ll be happy to assist in any way we can. For instance, if you are reading this page after your first attempt didn’t go through and your bank requires confirmation from the merchant that the transaction needs to be voided entirely, we’ll be happy to provide that via phone/email to them so they can remove the hold manually quickly instead of waiting the normal time of 2-3 days.
